Genes & Human Disease Research Program

Manu Tomar Ph.D.

I was born in Prayagraj, a holy city in north India. Since my childhood, I was curious about mother nature and various lifeforms. I received B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. I have taught graduate-level course in computational fluid dynamics, which was the topic of my master’s thesis. During my PhD from the Venkatesh Lab at IIT Bombay, I developed and analyzed mathematical models of the biochemical pathways underlying metabolic illnesses like diabetes and obesity. As a postdoc in Krishnan lab, I want to identify how different populations of Astyanax mexicanus differ with respect to their metabolic processes. Besides, I am also interested in understanding the fundamental principles of metabolism and educating different audiences about it to encourage them to adopt self-healing lifestyles. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, spending peaceful time in nature, and being with my loved ones.
